Thanksgiving Preschool Activities

Feed the Turkey

Glue the turkey template (found here) to any container you can find and add a few feathers.

There are a few ways to play.

🦃 Fine Motor Skills – Pick up a pom pom and place it in the bottle. Add tweezers to make it more challenging.
🦃 Counting – Roll a die, COUNT the number, and feed the corresponding number of pom poms
🦃 Adding – Roll 2 dice, ADD the dice together, feed the turkey the sum
🦃 Subtracting – Roll a die, subtract that number from 10, feed the turkey the difference

Turkey Patterns

This Thanksgiving activity can be modified for every level. Simply, draw a circle and give him a turkey face.
Add lines for the feathers and then it is time to differentiate. (Fancy teacher talk for meet your kid at their level).

Fall Sensory Bin

1 Sensory Bin 4 Ways
It sounds fancy when I say that I differentiate activities for my kids. The reality is my life is WAY to busy for me to come up with multiple ideas for each kid. So instead, I adjust each idea to meet both kid’s needs.

There are 4 levels to this bin.
1️⃣ Plain and simple play. No need to over complicate it here. Just play with the bin as is. (Reminder – All ages benefit from sensory bins with zero ulterior motives)
2️⃣ Add letters and match them to a recording sheet
3️⃣ Match the letters to a recording sheet based off their sound. I used the Lakeshore Learning alphabet stickers
4️⃣ Spell CVC words. Again I used the Lakeshore stickers, but this time I organized them to sound out words.

Disguise the Turkey

This is an assignement my Kindergartner came home from school with. We were given a blank turkey and asked to disguise it to save it from beign eaten on Thanksgiving. My daughter LOVED this assignement. I let my daughter do hers independently, but there are definetly some cool parent driven ones on Pinterest. You can find the free template here.

Salt Dough Turkey Handprint

Full disclosure, this is definitely a mommy craft. Mommy crafts usually aren’t my style, but sometimes I can’t resist. I will be doing this one with the kids till they give me grandkids 🤷‍♀️.

Recipe:
•1 cup all-purpose flour
•1/2 cup water
•1/2 cup salt
• dash of cinnamon (optional)

Directions:
•Mix all the ingredients together
•Roll out the dough till 1/2 in thick
•Press your hand print into the dough. Be firm and sprinkle a little flour on the dough if it is sticky.
•Cut out a circle around the print. We traced a bowl
• Bake at 300 for 1 hour
• Paint (acrylic paint works best)

Cranberry Engineering

Cranberry engineering. It is as simple as it looks. Layout cranberries and toothpicks and invite your kids to build.
Your kiddo might need to see an example (mine do). Build a little and quickly your kids willl jump in and take over! 🙌🙌

Your kids will be working on:

• Problem Solving
• Engineering
• Building Shapes/ Geometry
• Physics
• Creativity

If your kids build together, you can add in

• Teamwork
• Communicating

Cranberry Bog Sensory Bin

1. Fill a sensory bin with water.
2. Add cranberries.
3. Add tools like cups, characters toys, and lemon squeezers.

Turkey Snack Plate

Most of my cute snacks are really dessert. This was a little out of my comfort zone, but it works.

1. Start with the crackers. We stacked 5 on top of each other.
2. Add chocolate chips for the eyes and a little piece of dried cranberry for the gobbler
3. Peel a mandrin orange and place the slices down as feathers
4. Fill out ther feathers with sliced almonds and dried cranberries.
