Haunted House Directed Drawings

• Guide your child or students through a directed drawing of a Haunted House using crayons or black pastels. We used the tutorial from Art Projects for Kids.
• Use watercolors to fill in the design

Note: If your child or preschooler struggles to get started or with sizing, give them an object to trace for the initial shape.

Sight Word Ghost Matching

We are sticking with the Haunted House theme, but this time we are working on more of an academic skill. I used this activivity with my kindergartener and we focused on sight words, but you can easily adapt it to work on numbers or letters to meet your preschoolers needs.

• Draw a haunted house on butcher paper
• Write 5-10 sight words on the haunted house
• Cut ghosts out of construction paper
• Write the sight words on the construction paper
• Match the ghosts to the haunted house

Skill: Letter/ Sight Word Recognition

SPider Web Drawing

• Cut a piece of paper into a rectangle
• From one corner draw 5 diagonal lines
• Draw little arcs connecting the lines to one another
• Add a little spider drawing (two circles stacked on top of each other with 8 legs)
• Use watercolors to bring the drawing to life

Notes: Crayons and pastels will make the watercolors pop

Pumpkin Tracing

Quick and easy, 2 minute set ups are my jam. Butcher paper activites are a go to when I need quick and easy.

• On a piece of butcher paper draw various shapes using orange colored pencils. I use these shape tracers to make nice shapes.
• Add a stem and vines to each shape so that they look like a pumpkin
• Invite your preschooler to trace the pumpkin using orange marker

Notes: You could also use dot stickers or pom poms to trace the pumpkin shapes. Also my daughter drew designs inside each pumpkin, that isn’t a necessary step.

Butcher Paper Pumpkin Activity

Yet another butcher paper activity, they are just so easy.

• On a piece of butcher paper draw vines
• Add little stems and write sight words, letters, or numbers in each vine
• Cut orange circles from construction paper and draw little lines to add to the pumpkin look
• Write the same sight words, letters, or numbers you wrote on the stems on the pumpkins
• Invite your preschooler to glue the pumpkins to the correct stem

Notes: You can easily make this up and use sight words, numbers, or matching capital and lowercase letters.

Skill:RF.K.1.D Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

Frankenstein Craft

• Cut a green rectangle out of construction paper
• Cut a hair piece out ouf black construction paper. A small chunk with jagged edges on one side
• Cut two rectangles. One is the mouth and the other will be cut in half for the eyebrows
• Cut 2 bolts and 4 skinny strips for the stiches
• Assemble and glue all the pieces together including 2 googley eyes

Candy Corn Sensory Bin

• Pour 1-2 cups of dried garbanzo beans into a zip top bag
• Add 2-3 drops of orange acrylic paint
• Seal the bag and shake till all the beans are well coated
• Pour the beans on to wax paper to dry for about 40 minutes
• Repeat the process for white and yellow paint
• Pour the three sets of colored beans into a sensory bin to look like candy corn

Notes: You can use this process to dye almost any sensory bin filler, not just garbanzo beans

Witches Brew

• Fill a few bowls with shaving cream and colored water
• Layout the bowls with spooky toys like plastic spiders and bowls
• Invite your preschoolers to create a witches brew using the ingredients you set out

Notes: A cauldron adds to the spooky effect

Beginning Sounds Bat

• On butcher paper draw bats
• Place alphabet stickers on the bats
• Invite your preschooler to identify the letter that matches the beginning sound

Notes: You can use this process to spell CVC words or to just focus on beginning sounds. We used these stickers from Lakeshore Learning

Boo-Noculars

• Wrap 2 toilet paper rolls with construction paper
• Decorate with Halloween stickers and ribbon
• Staple yarn to the rolls for a strap
• Optional- Cut out a bat and staple it to top

Newspaper Mummy

• Use a cutout of a person, I use this brand but you can cut one out on your own.
• Cut newspaper into thin strips
• Glue the newspaper to the person
• Cut off the excess
