My kids are obsessed with play dough. They play with it all the time. It is always one of those activities where I know I can get them to engage for a good chunk of time. Plus, they are being creative, working on their fine motor skills, getting some sensory play in, and just having a good time.

I always love experimenting with the play dough recipes and letting my creativity shine through. Themed recipes, that are scented to give extra sensory goodness, are my favorite. And you like them too, without a doubt my play dough recipes are some of my most popular social media posts.

Check out three of my favorite play dough recipes.

  1. lemonade play dough
  2. apple pie play dough
  3. gingerbread play dough

This easy play dough recipe is simple to make. It requires a few fairly basic ingredients. However, you are probably going to need to go to the store for the indigents depending on what you keep on hand at home.

Sugar Cookie Play Dough Recipe

  • 1 can a vanilla frosting
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups of cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp of water

Combine all of your ingredients in a bowl.

Start with the 1 1/2 cups of cornstarch. Sprinkle in the extra half a cup as needed, until your dough is no longer sticky but it’s also not too tough.

I get lazy and use my mixer, but a spoon will do.

This is such an easy play dough recipe is 100% taste safe. I don’t think it would taste very good, I didn’t try it. But if you have a kiddo who is still experimenting with tasting their sensory items, this one is safe for them to do just that.

Now, when I invite my kids to play with play dough, I do two things.

  1. Cute Set Up – For this play dough set up I put out sprinkles, rolling pins, and cookie cutters because we were going with a sugar cookie theme.
  2. Manage My Expectations – I am the one who wants sugar cookie play dough. 100% part of that is because I have a blog. I take pictures and I inspire other families to play and be creative. The cute set ups inspire you, so I take a quick photo or two. Then, I share my idea of sugar cookie play dough with my kids. But, when they opt to build play dough kittens instead, I roll with it.
