Build A Superhero
It is awesome when our preschooler is able to recognize shapes as they are the foundation of geometry. We are able to deepen our preschooler's understanding of shapes, beyond simple recognition, when we invite them to create using shapes. This requires them to manipulate the shape which leads to better understanding of how shapes are used in everyday life, as very few objects in life are built using one basic shape.
This activity will encourage your preschooler to combine shapes so they can create a superhero!
You can find this template in my TPT shop for less than $2.
Focus Skills
Geometry
- Identify common 2-dimensional shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles, heart, star, circle, semi-circle, oval, diamond
- Use common shapes to create complex objects (triangle on top of a square makes a house)
Visual Arts
- Use a variety of visual art materials (paint, markers, crayons, clay) with minimal adult assistance
- Use visual arts to represent people, places, and things, with accuracy and detail

Step #1
Print and cut out the Build A Superhero Template.
There are two options for this:

- The small version (4 to a page) that your Lil’ can use as a guide as they build a superhero on a separate piece of paper.
Step #2
Cut out shapes from colored construction paper.
You will need circles, rectangles, and triangles.
Step #3
If you are using the large template – match the shapes to the template and glue them in place.
Step #4
If you are using the small templates – use the template as a guide as you glue the shapes to the white paper.
Teacher Tip
To make this activity more challenging, invite your preschoolers to create their own Superhero without using the templates at all.
