As I watch my son Derek grow (18 months) I can see that he will be more interested in activities that involve sensory and movement. He is always on the go, way more so than Reagan ever was, and he is inspiring me to include more movement activities alongside all our learning crafts. So even though D is too little for Sandbox Academy, he has definitely inspired this movement/alphabet activity.
This activity will work on gross motor skills and letter recognition.

*Superhero Stickers

*Construction Paper

*Painters Tape

*Markers

Step #1
Write the letters on a piece of paper, with one letter per page.

(We used half sheets of paper to conserve paper.)

  • Explorers – D, F, H, U
  • Creators – Dd, Ee, Hh, Jj, Uu, Ww
Step #2
Tape the letters to the wall.
Step #3
Call out a letter and have your Lil’ run to that letter on the wall and place the sticker on the letter.
Step #4
Repeat Step #3 until you have called out all the letters multiple times.

We did 5 rounds per letter, but Rea got a bit sluggish after 3 rounds so I probably should have cut back a little.

Teacher Tip

If your Lil’ has mastered identifying letters by their name, try calling out the letters by their sound so that your Lil’ can work on identifying letters and sounds. You can ease into it by saying, “Duh, duh, D.” Over time, the goal is to just say the sound without the name of the letter.
