So I have joined the crafty and homeschool preschool community on Instagram and I am so in awe of all the different small worlds people create. I love the idea of creating small world so that Lil’s can get their sensory play in and have the opportunity to go back in time or to another world and learn what life is like there.
This is an awesome opportunity for you to get a little creative or better yet, if you have a Lil’ Creator, this is a great opportunity for them to build their own small world.

Step #1
Everyone’s small world will be a little different based on the supplies you have at home, but here’s what we did:
  • Line the bottom of your plastic bin with brown construction paper and add some coffee grounds to serve as dirt. (We reused the coffee grounds from last month’s Dump Truck Letter Sensory Bin).
  • Use Play Doh to anchor branches that will serve as trees.
  • Use rocks to line a stream or pond.
  • Fill the pond with blue Play Doh or simply color the paper blue.
  • Make a volcano out of Play Doh. Fill it with baking soda so that your Lil’ can add vinegar to make it erupt.
  • Use pine needles to create a nest and place a few extra rocks in the nest to serve as eggs.
  • Place small and large dinosaurs in your small world and invite your Lil’ to play.

Teacher Tip

We used a medicine syringe to add the vinegar to the volcano! Rea absolutely LOVED this part and we did it 3 times!
