After feeling the webs in The Very Busy Spider book, Rea is really into creating and feeling webs. Thankfully, she hasn’t tried to feel a real spider web yet. I’m hoping that doesn’t become a thing…
But I decided to indulge her by doing this activity. We are creating a web in various shapes so, you know, we can slyly slip a little geometry into this activity.

Geometry

  • Identify common 2-dimensional shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles, heart, star, circle, semi-circle, oval, diamond

Fine Motor Skills

  • Coordinating the use of arms, hands, and fingers together to manipulate objects with increasing accuracy
  • Engage in activities that require hand-eye coordination

Lil’ Creators Focus Skills

Required Materials

Shape Webs

*Yarn

*Contact Paper

*Tape

*Scissors

Step #1
Print the shape web template.
Step #2
Cut yarn into 1 foot long pieces.
Step #3
Lay a piece of contact paper over the template with the sticky side up.
Step #4
Use the pieces of yarn to trace over the shapes and fill it in with a criss-cross or zig-zag motion to create a Web.
(The yarn should stick to the contact paper.)

Teacher Tip

To keep the template and contact paper from moving around, tape them both individually to your table before inviting your Lil’ to create their shape webs.
