Today’s activity is one of my daughter’s favorites and (this is the best part) it’s beyond easy for you to prep. This lesson is a simple and perfect example of how you can make learning fun. A lot of people drill into their child how to spell their name using worksheets, but you can easily make it a game that will engage your child in a way that will keep them interested in learning.

Lil’ Explorers Focus Skills

Reading

  • Recognizes name
  • Identify the letters in name

Gross Motor

  • Use locomotor skills with balance in a variety of directions
  • Use locomotor skills with coordination in a variety of directions

White Paper

Markers

Step #1

Use the marker to write your child’s name on the paper  (you will only write one letter per page)

Step #2

Lay the papers on the floor, spelling out your child’s name

Step #3

Ask your child to hop on each letter. For example, with the name Emily you could say “hop on the E”, once they hop on the E move on to the M.

Teacher Tip

If your Lil’ doesn’t know the letters of their name yet, no worries. You can model for them by jumping too, they will love seeing you get involved!

You can go in order once, but after that try to mix up the letters so that they have to think about each letter.
