We are continuing our M is for Marshmallows idea and we’re adding an engineering twist!
A few toothpicks and a handful of marshmallows are all you need for this engaging, low prep activity.

Lil’ Explorers Focus Skills


  • Construct models to represent their imagination and objects in the world
  • Build using a variety of materials in both conventional and unconventional ways
  • Use tools with appropriate safety and purpose
  • Engage in problem solving activities

Fine Motor Skills

  • Coordinate the use of hands, wrists, and fingers to complete tasks that require more precise movements
  • Engage in activities that require hand-eye coordination with increasing accuracy

Step #1
Layout 10-20 toothpicks and a handful of marshmallows and invite your Lil’ to build.
Step #2
You may have to model for them how to stick the toothpick in the marshmallow.
Step #3
Allow their creativity to take over and enjoy building alongside them.

Teacher Tip

Make sure you are building alongside your Lil’ and not taking over their building.
