Measurement is a important concept. It starts with very basic and broad measurements (large, small, long, short heavy, light) and then as we begin to master this broad concept, we can start to introduce counting measurements (i.e., the book is 10 blocks long). And finally after those two skills are mastered, we can add the abstract concept of inches or meters. Our Lil’s are not ready for the abstract, but they are ready for broad and basic measurements.
This activity will work on comparing 2 or more webs as using the measurements long and short.

Long vs. Short Webs Template

Step #1
Print and cut out the Long vs. Short Webs Template.
Step #2
Invite your Lil’ to pick two spider webs.
Step #3

Ask them to identify which one is long and which one is short.

Step #4

Repeat this process until you have compared all the webs.

Step #5
If this is too easy, see if they can compare 3 or more webs at one time.

Teacher Tip

To add a kinesthetic aspect to this lesson, invite your Lil’ to use pom poms or mini erasers to cover the line of the web. This will allow them to feel how long each web is.
