Directionality is a crucial skill in reading and it is the concept about print that we are focusing on this month.
Directionality simply means reading from left to right and top to bottom.

Candy Cane

Step #1
Using a pointer as you read is a great way to show directionality.
You can use a candy cane to fit with the winter wonderland theme or decorate a popsicle stick.
Step #2

Be sure as you are reading to continue at your normal pace and don’t worry about touching every word as you say it aloud. Just focus on moving the pointer the correct direction as you read.

Teacher Tip

Our Lil’ Explorers are probably not ready to move the pointer on their own, however they will learn a lot just watching you. But our Lil’ Creators are ready to try holding the pointer as you read.
