Our favorite part about visiting the farm is feeding the animals. We always bring a cut up apple to feed the horses and cows.
Today’s activity is inspired by our love for feeding the animals as well as the need for learning to share.
Bonus this is the very initial steps to division!
YES, I said division!
NO, I do not expect your Lil’ to be solving division problem!
But acting out story problems like this sets a solid foundation for your Lil’s math skills and is age appropriate!

Step #1
Print and cut out the Fall on the Farm Sharing Template.
Step #2
Explain to your Lil’ that you have 2 apples and you want to give them to your cow and horse AND you want the cow and horse to have the same amount.
Step #3
Pass the apples out to the horse and cow one at a time.
Step #4
Repeat steps 2 & 3 but this time start with 4 apples.
Step #5
Continue this process until you get to a total of 10 apples.
Only use even numbers as your total, there is no need to complicate it will odd numbers and remainders right now.

Teacher Tip

While you obviously know how to divide in your head, your Lil’ doesn’t so pass one apple to the horse and one to the cow until you are out of apples.
