Today’s lesson might have you feeling a little like Bugs Bunny with all the carrots involved. Our Counting Stems activity is inspired by the creativity over at Housing a Forest and it will help your Lil’ Creator develop one-to-one correspondence for the numbers 1 – 4. Below are the instructions and a list of materials including a FREE template for the carrots.

  • Count from 0-20 (1-4)
  • Understand values of numbers 0-20 (1-4)

Fine motor

  • Coordinate the use of hands, wrists, and fingers to complete tasks that require more precise movements
  • Engage in activities that require hand-eye coordination with increasing accuracy

Required Materials

Counting Stems Template

*Orange and Green Construction Paper



Step #1

Print the template on orange construction paper

Step #2

Cut along the dotted lines on the template – this will give you your carrots

Step #3

For your carrot with the number 1, cut one strip of green paper and glue it to the carrot

Step #4

Repeat step two for all four carrots
