Ya’ll, we have talked about number sense a lot, but it is a really important concept in my opinion. Too often our Lil’s learn to count without any understanding of what they are saying or they learn to identify numbers without any concept of what the numbers mean. But when we teach our Lil’s number sense, we are teaching them the symbol 4 represents a value. This is the foundation necessary to complete even the most basic math concepts like addition and subtraction.
Today’s activity will work on number sense as your Lil’ will build a burger that represents a number in multiple ways.

Build a Burger Template

Step #1
Print and cut out the Build A Burger Template.
I have included numbers 0-20 in this template because you may be working on different focus numbers than me, but I still recommend that you work on 4 focus numbers this month.
This month our Lil’ Explorers are working on 5-8 and Lil’ Creators are working on 15-18.
Step #2
Put the burgers together with the corresponding buns, patty, cheese, and topping.

Teacher Tip

The more numbers you work on at once, the harder the activity will be. I would start with 2 numbers at a time. If that is too hard, build one burger at a time. If it is too easy, build 3 burgers at once.
