This is one of those activities where I kind of had an activity planned in my head and it just kept evolving because I didn’t know exactly what I wanted.

This is another sensory activity that will get your Lil’ counting and working on one-to-one correspondence (teacher talk for understanding value).

Lil’ Explorers Focus Skills

Algebraic Thinking

  • Count from 0-10
  • Understand values of numbers 0-10

Science

  • Understand 3 of the 5 senses to make observations (touch)

Required Materials

*Affiliate Link

*Plastic Tub

Water

Pouch Caps

*Note Cards

*Markers

Step #1
Fill a plastic bin with water we added a little bit of food coloring just to enhance the fun.
Step #2

Write the numbers 0 through 10 on notecards with each number being on a different notecard.

Step #3

Now that you have all the materials ready it’s time to play.

Have your Lil’ label the dock (bin) using the paper numbers. Whatever number is on the paper is the number of boats that will go in the dock (bin).

Step #4

Remove all the boats and repeat step 3 until you have tried all the numbers.

Teacher Tip

This activity will help your Lil’ see that numbers are not just symbols on paper or things we count; rather they represent a quantity or value.
