Y’all, a few weeks ago I was scrolling through Instagram and I came across Hosanna’s account Let’s Learn Kids Book Club and she had this wonderful idea to create a book club series that focuses on the character virtues we want out kids to have so that they grow to be strong, compassionate leaders. I loved this concept so much so I asked her to do a guest post to share it with all of you. She has some wonderful ideas and I can’t wait for you to learn from her.

Hello Sandboxer!

Thank you for having me. I am super excited to spend some time with you today and share my A-Z Virtues and Habits Book Club with you.

With a home full of munchkins, my husband (a.k.a. my Incredible Hulk…without a temper issue ;D) and I have a lot to consider as we raise little people who will soon be big people. These are formative yet fleeting years, and while we cannot perfectly prepare our kids for every aspect of adulthood, we can and should strive to focus on the areas that will have the biggest impact. Their character is one such area.
Like most moms I deal with less than stellar attitudes and poor habits creeping up just as weeds never cease growing in a garden, but I have learned that if I pour a little attention and effort into your cultivating, and the weeds will be kept at bay.

I designed my A-Z Habits and Virtues Book Club to help you teach your child 26 beneficial virtues and habits such as being appreciative, brave, and compassionate.

So what is my A-Z Virtues Book Club?

Excellent Books
A story can teach ideas and lessons far better than mere words or a list of rules. (The books recommended are easily found at libraries. There is also the option of using books you already have that you feel would introduce the topic well.)
Story Guides
Interactive pages to reflect on the meaning and application of each virtue and habit. While these may be too advance for most of your kiddos, you can use them when reading the books as a guide for your discussions with your child.
Printables

Flags for coloring as a fun visual reminder.

I’m thrilled to share these materials with you in hopes that this simple approach gives you just the right amount of structure and fun as you guide your child through character qualities and habits that will benefit them for all of their days. Meanwhile, you get more snuggle time as you cuddle up on the couch with your little one and a good book! This sounds like a fun and easy way to tend to your garden, don’t you think?
