Last month I shared with our Lil’ Explorers that patterns are ESSENTIAL in math!

EVERY SINGLE MATH concept is based on PATTERNS! That is why we will be focusing on patterns a lot here at the Sandbox.

This activity is intended to help your Lil’ not only identify a pattern, but to also recreate the pattern to show a deeper level of understanding. Grab a FREE copy of the pattern cards HERE!

Lil’ Creators Focus Skills

  • Create simple A-B-C or A-B-B repeating patterns
  • Complete a pattern using alternative materials with adult assistance (when given green –blue – green –blue pattern replicate it by replacing green with triangles and blue with hearts)

  • Can identify all capital letters and most sounds

L & P Alternative Patterns Template

*Sea Animal Beads

Step #1

Cut out the pattern cards

Step #2

Using the pattern cards, create a pattern for your Lil’

Step #3

Ask your Creator to use the sea animal beads to recreate the pattern you made.

Step #4

Continue to do this by creating new patterns for your Creator to recreate

Teacher Tip

Your Creator will enjoy getting to switch roles with you. Let them make the original pattern and you can recreate it. They will still be working on patterns and observing you creating patterns with alternative materials. Plus, they will love the idea of getting to be the “teacher”.
